Description
The World Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the most remarkable ensembles in the world. Founded by the United Nations and the United Nations Children's Fund, it brings together soloists from leading orchestras from every continent. The players meet once a year in order to perform together to the highest standards and at the same time to set an example of peaceful coexistence among all men and women. The present recording was made at the orchestra's inaugural; concert in 1985 and features Bruckner's Eighth Symphony conducted by one of the composer's leading interpreters, Carlo Maria Giulini. The concert was important, therefore, in two ways, both as a message of peace and as a musical event of timeless significance.
